A new Finnish pilot line is testing fibre products made with around 90% less water than the conventional wet-laid process. The AirLaid technology, installed by VTT, can also cut the energy needed for drying by tens of per cent.

Companies from several countries have already shown interest in the test facility, which is used to develop tissue and hygiene products and which VTT wants to extend to packaging boards, insulation and construction. The facility speeds up the journey from good ideas to industrial solutions that use fewer resources.
