The organisation Youth With A Mission (Jocum), together with several national institutions, held a health fair in the Tira-Chapéu neighbourhood, on the outskirts of the city of Praia, under the motto “Love in Practice”.
Residents had free access to screening and rapid tests, including blood sugar, HIV/AIDS and blood pressure checks, as well as medical consultations. A counselling office staffed by psychologists and specialists from the CCAD and the CNDHC was also set up to provide emotional support and raise awareness of addiction and human rights.
The initiative was supported by the local health centre, Praia city council, the National Police, the Armed Forces, the CCAD and the CNDHC. “What matters most to us is the quality of care, not the quantity,” stressed Jocum volunteer Alberto Afonso, who appealed for support from businesses and other partners, given the cost of logistics and clinical supplies.
