Lecturer Herinelto da Fonseca Josefa Casimiro of the Higher Polytechnic Institute of Technologies and Sciences (ISPTEC) and other researchers have proposed a mathematical solution to optimise the water supply network of the Embondeiro neighbourhood in Samba, Luanda.

The study uses graph theory and Prim’s algorithm to find the most efficient layout, resulting in a network 820 metres long. The work took into account irregular water supply, dependence on tanker trucks and the area’s structural weaknesses.

The article was published on 13 October in the scientific journal Caderno Pedagógico. According to the authors, the results show the potential of mathematics in infrastructure planning and could support more efficient supply solutions.
