Angola launched its National Integrated Vaccination Campaign in Luanda, one of the largest public health operations ever carried out in the country, to vaccinate more than 10 million children against polio, measles, rubella and yellow fever.
The campaign ran from 23 to 27 October with more than 77,000 health workers, volunteers, social mobilisers and community leaders, organised into more than 11,000 teams in cities, rural areas and hard-to-reach places in every province.
In border areas with the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Namibia, the injectable polio vaccine was also given, in coordination with similar campaigns in those countries, to help stop the spread of the disease in the region.
