The Kissama Foundation announced on 17 September that Team AlUla, LeBron James’s team in the E1 world electric powerboat championship, will sponsor a bilingual edition of the children’s book “Cori, a Tartaruga em Perigo” (Cori, the Turtle in Danger). The announcement followed the E1 Luanda GP, held on 12 and 13 September.

The 47-page book was written by marine biologist Sendi Baptista and illustrated by Fernando Hugo Fernandes. It tells the story of a leatherback turtle injured by a boat and her friendship with a girl called Kiela.

Proceeds go to the Kitabanga Project, which protects sea turtles in six of Angola’s seven coastal provinces. The new edition aims to bring the story to a more diverse audience, combining literature, education and conservation.

During its visit to Luanda, the team took part in an environmental education session on Cori’s story with children from Colégio Pitruca, and former interns from the foundation’s biodiversity programme got a close look at the racing boat technology.
