China’s women won the world team title in artistic gymnastics on Wednesday 21 October in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. It is the first time in 20 years that China has won the event.

In the final China edged the United States by just 0.233 points, ending a long US winning streak. Balance beam made the difference: three phenomenal routines in the third rotation gave China the lead, with world champion Zhang Qingying to the fore. Japan took bronze.

All three nations also qualified full teams for the LA 2028 Olympic Games. Nine more teams will be able to qualify at next year’s World Championships.
