The University of Florence (Unifi) has improved its position in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027. It placed among the top 16.3% of 2,297 institutions from 118 countries, having been among the top 18.3% of 2,191 the previous year.

The university now appears in the 351-375 band, in the upper part of the 351-400 group it occupied last year. Among the 58 Italian institutions assessed, it rose from 13th to 11th place, tied with the universities of Milan and Trento.

The research environment indicator rose from 37.9 to 41.1, an increase the university attributes to research productivity, funding and reputation. Good results were also recorded in teaching and internationalisation.

The rector, Alessandra Petrucci, credited the result to the institution’s scientific output and its ability to attract research funding.
