Cabo Verde Telecom (CVTelecom) and DE-CIX, an international operator of internet exchange points, have signed a non-binding letter of intent to assess the creation of a new interconnection corridor in the South Atlantic, linking Lisbon to São Paulo.
According to CVTelecom, the new route would reduce dependence on the traditional traffic hubs of northern Europe and North America. The project could benefit network operators, internet service providers, cloud services and businesses, as well as widening access to digital services and attracting technology investment.
Under the proposal, CVTelecom would provide transport capacity between Lisbon and São Paulo, while DE-CIX would provide access to its interconnection ecosystems in Frankfurt, Madrid, Marseille, New York and São Paulo. The technical scope and commercial terms will be set out in a future definitive agreement.
CVTelecom’s executive director, Isa Neves, said the partnership strengthens Cape Verde’s position as a strategic digital gateway between Africa, Europe and the Americas, contributing to greater connectivity in West Africa.
