The UK government has announced £79 million for local nature recovery projects in England. Of the total, £53 million is earmarked for tree planting and £26 million will be shared among 48 authorities responsible for Local Nature Recovery Strategies.
The initiatives are expected to create and connect green spaces, improve habitats and help urban and rural areas cope with floods and heatwaves. The funding is a commitment to future action, and its results will depend on how each local project is delivered.
