Solar power generation in Portugal reached a new output peak of around 3,850 MW in August. The record came alongside growth in installed capacity, even in a month when weather conditions were less favourable for photovoltaic generation.
According to REN, between January and August 2026 renewable sources supplied 66% of national electricity consumption. Hydropower accounted for 25%, wind 23%, solar 13% and biomass 5%, reinforcing the growing role of clean sources in the Portuguese electricity system.
