The 15th edition of the FAI Autumn Days, organised by the Fondo per l’Ambiente Italiano (FAI), attracted around 400,000 participants on 10 and 11 October. According to the organisers, the turnout confirms the event as Italy’s leading public initiative of its kind, alongside the FAI Spring Days held every March.
More than 700 places of art, history and nature opened in 350 cities, many of them usually inaccessible or little known. Visits were by voluntary contribution and were led by 9,000 “Apprendisti Ciceroni”, students trained by their teachers to guide the public.
Despite unsettled weather, especially in the centre and south of the country and on the islands, FAI reported large crowds and orderly queues at many sites. More than 75 openings were dedicated to Italian craftsmanship and Made in Italy.
The most visited site was Palazzo Saladini Pilastri in Ascoli Piceno, followed by Palazzo Dugnani and CityWave, both in Milan. The regions with the highest turnout were Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna and Piedmont.
