Swedish banking has reached the top of Global Finance magazine’s annual ranking of the 50 safest commercial banks on the planet. Handelsbanken climbed four places to first, while Swedbank rose 16 places to finish second.
Another Swedish bank, SEB, also improved markedly, climbing 15 places to ninth.
The list excludes state-owned banks and is based on long-term credit ratings from Moody’s, S&P Global and Fitch. Presenting the results, Global Finance noted that Swedish banks had made big moves up the table this year.
